Joey Logano Back at the Rock

ROCKINGHAM, N.C. (May 14, 2008) – Less than two weeks after winning the Carolina 500, Joey Logano returned to the Rockingham Speedway – this time driving a Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota testing for his upcoming debut in the NASCAR Nationwide Series.

Logano spent all day in his #20 Nationwide Series Toyota – a car that he has not yet raced but at a track where he dominated the field during his ARCA debut just last week. He won the Savage Energy Pole and then led the most laps during the race to pick up a record setting check for the win.

“I had fun racing at the Rock,” said Logano. “I think it’s my favorite track.”

Logano will now set his sights on his NASCAR Nationwide Series debut that will happen in just over two weeks at Dover International Speedway on May 31st.

The Next big event at the Rockingham Speedway will be the Super Stang Fest car show on June 14th followed by the Hooters Pro Cup Series race on November 1st. The track will be busy throughout the summer with testing as well as the Fast Track High Performance Driving School.

For More information about the Super Stang Fest, please visit www.superstangfest.com.  To order tickets for the American 200 Hooters Pro Cup race call the track at 910-205-8800 or visit the website www.rockinghamspeedway.com

Field Set for Carolina 500

ROCKINGHAM, N.C. (May 3. 2008) – Joey Logano, who paced Friday’s  ARCA RE/MAX Series practice at Rockingham Speedway, edged Ricky Stenhouse Jr. by a mere 0.080 second Saturday to earn the pole position for this weekend’s Carolina 500.

Logano, who will make his NASCAR Nationwide Series debut for Joe Gibbs Racing in June, posted a lap of 146.645 mph, 24.549 seconds, in a Chevrolet. Stenhouse, driving a Roush Fenway Racing Ford, turned a lap on the 1-mile track of 146.169 mph, 24.629 seconds.

“I feel pretty confident for tomorrow,” Logano said. “I think we got a really good car for the long run. We were able to move around a lot in practice yesterday and try different things. Traffic is gonna be a bear out there, so it’s gonna be staying out of trouble most of the night.”

Stenhouse said he didn’t expect for be second quickest.

“To come out here and pick up a second, I was pretty surprised,” Stenhouse admitted. “I figured we’d be top five or 10. I didn’t really know we’d be on the front row. The guys changed a little bit on the car from out last qualifying run yesterday [Saturday]. I just got into the gas and it stuck.”

Rounding out the top 10, respectively, were: Justin Lofton, Dodge; Michael Annett and Jack Bailey in Toyotas; Matt Carter, Ford; Justin Marks, Toyota; Justin Allgaier, Chevrolet; Ken Butler, Toyota; and Austin Dillon, Chevrolet.

Dillon, the grandson of NASCAR championship car owner Richard Childress, said the 312-lap event was “grassroots racing again.”

“I watched the last race here (in February 2004),” Dillon said. “This is really cool to go back I history and watch these guys, and now we get to come here and race 50 cars on the track. That’s just really cool.”

Polar Bear 150 Coming to Rockingham Speedway

ROCKINGHAM, N.C. (May 3, 2008) – Fans of Rockingham Speedway that can’t wait to see 50 ARCA RE/MAX Series cars take the green flag tomorrow will now have another must see race at Rockingham.

On January 1, 2009, 99 cars will take the green flag for the first ever Polar Bear 150. The Frank Kimmel Street Stock Series has given Street Stock drivers who normally only run their hometown short track the opportunity to race on major speedways including Bristol and Kentucky in addition to the “The Rock”.

“Anytime you put 99 cars on track for a race, you know it will be exciting”, said Frank Kimmel II.

For anyone interested in participating, young Kimmel explains that it’s easy to become part of this Street Stock event. “It’s an all stock car and most street stockers around Rockingham and almost around the country can run it”. The main requirements to enter the race are in the safety of the car. This includes things like roll cage, door plates, window nets and a head-and-neck restraint system.

The Polar Bear 150 will be the third race since Andy Hillenburg purchased the track last year. In addition to this weekend’s Carolina 500, the Hooter’s Pro Cup Series will crown there champion at “The Rock” on November 1st. Other activities at the track this summer include the Super Stang Fest on June 14th – an all Ford Mustang car show as well as several Fast Track High Performance Driving Schools.

To purchase tickets for any of the upcoming races or for more information call the Rockingham Speedway at (910) 205-8800 or go to the track's Web site at www.rockinghamspeedway.com.
